Fast and effective cleaning while saving time and water – a win-win situation!
Problem: A mining company was washing and de-icing their large mining equipment with a 150-200 gpm water cannon monitor system. In the summer, washes typically averaged 1-2 hours, using 9,000 to 24,000 gallons per vehicle.
In the winter months, however, the company used the same water cannon monitor system to defrost the equipment and then wash it. Defrosting in the depths of winter could often take up to 10 hours which added an additional 90,000 to 120,000 gallons per vehicle!
The company called Wash Bay Solutions and asked us to develop a heavy-duty washing solution that would greatly reduce their water usage.
Solution: With input from the client, our engineers enhanced our existing demucking system with a new nozzle design to produce our 60 GPM @ 1000 PSI Mighty Monitor system.
The key to this system is our specially designed, multi-directional, 60 gpm @ 1000 psi nozzle. These nozzles are trolley-mounted so they can ride along I-beam systems, immediately adjacent to the vehicle. Specialized hose trolley systems attached to the nozzles allow the operator to wash the 60-ton mining vehicles almost single-handedly!
Results: The client is very happy the ease-of-handling, range of movement, and washing power of the new design. They are able to wash their large trucks quickly and effectively, using less time and about 1/10 of the amount of water than they did with the water cannons.
Many land management and forestry companies utilize a multitude of equipment ranging from bulldozers to light utility trucks. Work is often in off-road locations where equipment is exposed to many different elements and collects solids rather quickly, including mud, debris, seeds and spores. Cleaning this equipment is vital to having a successful operation since too many solids can foul the equipment and cause extended periods of down time.
Of particular concern to industry professionals are the plant seeds and spores which are often transported in the mud and debris that is picked up by vehicles and equipment. Effective cleaning, therefore, is critical to reducing the transport of invasive plant species that have the potential to upset the natural balance of plant life and wildlife.
Typical washing and water treatment solutions include:
Mighty Monitor Demucking Systems (Water Cannons)
Our revolutionary heavy-duty Mighty Monitor systems only use 20-60 gpm – approximately 1/10 to 1/20 of the amount of water used in the traditional water cannons. Our systems combine increased pressure and specialized nozzles to ensure a quality wash. Using fresh or recycled cold water, our Mighty Monitors clean quickly and effectively, in half the time of a typical pressure washer.
Portable Wash Containment Pads
Robustly designed for range of industrial applications, our portable wash containment pads can provide an economical alternative to a conventional wash pad. Easily transported and assembled, these wash pads are ideal for remote locations.
Closed Loop Systems
Our Wash Water Treatment Systems are heavy-duty, multi-stage reclaim systems, engineered and manufactured for the heavy industries. They can be customized for particular application and locations.
Get the power of a fire hose with a fraction of the water usage!
Robustly designed for heavy industrial applications such as mining and oilfield services, our MM Series Mighty Monitors are great for cleaning large haul trucks, steel tracked vehicles or any heavy equipment caked with mud, clay, ice, grass or muck.
For drilling and construction equipment applications, our 20 gpm Mighty Monitor system cleans quickly and effectively, in half the time of a typical pressure washer.
For mining applications, we have developed a revolutionary heavy-duty Mighty Monitor system to replace the standard high volume water cannons that have been used for decades. Our systems combine increased pressure and specialized nozzles to ensure a quality wash. Using only 60 gpm of reclaimed water, our Mighty Monitors will effectively remove heavy accumulations of dirt and mud – saving thousands of gallons of water per cleaning.

“Our washing operation used to dump 3,000 to 5,000 gallons of process water down the sewer each day because it was contaminated with petroleum oil and wax. Not only did we lose this water in the middle of the worst drought in history but the heat energy it contained as well. We also risked plugging up the city sewer system.
The system removes the floating oils from the top of the water surface and directs the water continuously into the oil water separator. The unit produces water so clean that we can use it in our boilers and cooling towers. Zero water is now sent down the sewer.”
In many industrial, mining, and oil and gas operations, multiple processes involving water and fluids can be occurring at a single location at any one time. Often, these complicated processes may seem unrelated but they can affect one another and cause poor water quality, unforeseen chemical reactions, and costly equipment failures.
Our approach is a little different in that it is very “data-driven”. We gather as much data as possible and then use our decades of experience to develop a comprehensive plan for your entire facility.
Surveys: As a first step, we perform a comprehensive survey to identify all potential sources of water and fluids entering and leaving the facility. These survey results can be very interesting. They can reveal previously unknown volumes of water and chemicals coming into the system intermingling and creating different reactions and issues.
Data Gathering & Documentation: After the initial survey, we gather as much water quality, flow, pressure, and chemical data as possible with a wide array of measurement and control systems including:
Flow meters and pressure sensors
pH control systems
COD/BOD analyzers
Water quality tests
Level controllers
We also provide checklists and spreadsheets with automatic graphing capability that can show system changes and allow for further system analysis and process improvement.
System Analysis & Process Modifications: By analyzing this data, we are able to recommend various process and chemical changes which will maximize your system operations and reduce costs. Adding measurement devices and control systems will help onsite personnel quickly react to any changes in the system and effectively address issues before they become costly problems.
Developing a comprehensive water management system can have many advantages and be a smart move for your company. Give us a call at 800-453-8639 for more information.
Our triple-float oil skimmers are designed to free float on the water and remove non-emulsified oils from the surface. Constructed of stainless steel, they can be designed to be rigid or hinged to fit into small manhole openings in wastewater storage tanks.
Wall-Mounted Oil Skimmers
Our dual-float, wall-mounted oil skimmers are designed to remove non-emulsified oils from the surface of the water. Skimmers are constructed from stainless steel for corrosion resistance and sturdy enough for any application. The wall-mounted slide pipe allows the skimmer to float vertically but be kept close to the wall so it can be accessed easily. It can be built to accommodate any size sump.
Depending on the application, both skimmers can be custom-built for size and flow rate.
California is now entering its fourth year of drought. State and local authorities have asked residents to voluntarily reduce water use by 20%. Various water managers estimate that available water will last for a year or at the most three.
While at present the authorities have asked for a voluntary reduction in water use, this is likely to be followed soon by price rationing where households that consume more than 150 gallons of water a day will be charged a higher rate. Apart from residents, industries and businesses too have to work to reduce water usage to help overcome the drought and reduce their water bills or keep them under manageable levels.
Recycling Waste Water
One of the most effective ways of reducing water consumption is by recycling waste water. This helps reduce effluent discharge and ensures that the same water is reused. Many industries such as trucking, fork lift operators, rail operators, car wash units, and others use water for washing the vehicles. This is part of maintenance and ensures a professional image, happy and health drivers, and clean transportation facilities. However, the amount of water used can be high. By recycling the waste water, the businesses can reduce their water consumption and their water bills.
CT Series Wash Water Systems
Commercial trucking companies can install the CT Series wash water systems to recycle and reuse the waste water. The system removes settle-able solids and non-emulsified oil droplets before filtering the water to make it reusable. The multi-stage reclaim and discharge process begins with a solid removal process. This system can be designed to be “site specific” – taking into account the specific features of the site.
A stainless steel oil and water separation system is used to remove non emulsified oil drops from the water as well as settle-able solids. Once this is done, the water is passed through a highly efficient water filtration process that uses corona and activated carbon to purify the water. This removes all contaminants that are larger than 10 microns in size including volatile organic compounds, waxes, and oils.
RL Series Treatment Systems
Another efficient method of transportation is by rail. A rail company that wants to reduce its water usage and still keep its carriages clean can do so by installing the RL Series Treatment Systems. These systems have been developed especially for the railways. They can be combined with existing rail wash systems to ensure that the water use is significantly reduced.
First, the wash water is passed through a stainless steel clarifier oil water separator that removes settle-able solids, and separates the oil and water. All suspended solids are removed at this stage as well as free and dispersed non emulsified oil. Next, the water is passed through a solids filtration system that uses blended activated carbon. This process will remove waxes, volatile organic compounds, and all particles greater than 10 microns in size, ensuring water that can be reused for washing the railway carriages.
